A missing mullet in Mission Beach

There is one less guy running around with a mullet in Mission Beach today. Sometimes when you have too much to drink you do things you regret the next morning, and in this case in happened with a pair of scissors. Say goodbye to the mullet!

Book or not to book ahead

How organised do you need to be when your travelling? I like to be a bit organised and go with the flow as well, but one of the risks with going with the flow is that sometimes you miss out. Here at the Mission Beach Information Station we often come across accommodation and tours that are booked out for a day or even longer. When your on a tight schedule this can sometimes be a bit frustrating, so if there is a particular hostel you want to stay in or a boat you want to sail on then come in and let us help you book them.

Dolphin Beach House

NOOSA: Welcome to 'Dolphins at Sunshine Beach'. Known as the best budget accommodation option in Noosa and located only 5 minutes from Noosa's town centre and 200 metres from beautiful Sunshine Beach. You will find our breezy Guatemalan design and shady outdoor areas provide you with the perfect retreat after a days touring or beachcombing.

I had just had a visit from 4 young ladies who went skydiving in Mission Beach this morning, and didn't they look fabulous. They were all windblown but had the biggest grins on their faces. So if you to want to have fun then come in and visit us at the Mission Beach Information Station and we will book you a skydive with one of the two companies who land here on the beach!

Fishing in Mission Beach

Last weekend a few friends of mine went fishing in one of the local creeks that flows out onto Wongaling Beach. Surprisingly they caught 2 fair sized barramundi and a couple of mud crabs!! So, if your like me and you like to keep your feet on dry land , why not have a go at one of the local creeks here in Mission Beach.

The sunshine is back

The sunshine has made its way back to Mission Beach, yeah! It is lovely being outside and enjoying the fine weather. A great way is to head out to the Reef for a bit of snorkelling or scuba diving, and luckily Calypso is going out tomorrow and we can help you go with them, just come in to the Mission Beach Information Station and we will make sure you have a fabulous day.

24 March 2008

Nana Thai

When I go out for dinner my first choice is always Thai, the good news is that even in Mission Beach this is an option. I went out to Nana Thai on Saturday night for a friends birthday and the food was fabulous, there were 15 of us eating and we all enjoyed a variety of meals. If your looking for a relaxing night out with good food then this is my recommendation.

23 March 2008

Trying to calm the nerves !!!

skydiving weather

Here in Mission Beach the weather looks like it's finally starting to fine up, hopefully it lasts for more than a day ! A friend and I were due to go skydiving last weekend, unfortunately we had to cancel because of the dicey weather, hopefully this weekend we will have more luck =)

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to our lovely trainee who is celebrating her sweet sixteen in Mission Beach today, unfortunately her planned present, a skydive, may not happen today due to the rain that is falling as we speak, I guess we will have to wait a bit longer to hear how she enjoyed landing on the beach in Mission Beach.

15 March 2008

Council Elections

Residents of Mission Beach are voting for the first time on the new amalgamated council. The Johnstone & Cardwell Shires have joined together to become the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.
Good luck to all the running candidates. May Mission Beach reap the benefits of the new Council in coming years eg: A new swimming pool!!!

Stuck in Mission Beach

Its been a bit wet here in Mission Beach today. The roads between Tully and Mission Beach and El Arish and Mission Beach were cut off with flood waters. We had some very soggy and not too happy travellers.......but hey....who could complain about being stuck in beautiful Mission Beach for an extra day. All roads are clear now and traffic has returned to normal.

Sending Freight

If you are sending freight on the bus you really need to think about wrapping it carefully. We take lots of care with your parcel here in Mission Beach but cannot be sure if others will do the same. Personally I am a real bubble wrap fan!

13 March 2008

Sending photos home for Mum

One of the things I have found with travellers, particularly the girls, is that they love to send home photos to Mum, just so she can see that you are safe and well. Here at Mission Beach Information Station you can print your photos, download them to email or save to a disk. Come in and make your Mum happy!

12 March 2008

Lovely cool weather

I must admit to really enjoying the cooler weather we have here in Mission Beach at the moment. I went for a walk on the beach at Bingil Bay with a friend last night and it was just lovely, a cool breeze was blowing the whole time. So if your a local or visitor get out there and enjoy the outdoors.

11 March 2008

Enjoy Life

Life is fun in Mission Beach. Even in the wet season it is still great to stroll along the beach, through the rainforest or to laze around reading a book or 5!

09 March 2008

Mum is coming to visit

I have been spending the last 18 months telling my family how wonderful Mission Beach is, and now my Mum is coming to see for herself. I'm really looking forward to taking her on a trip to Dunk Island, we will get out and do some of the rainforest walks, a walk on the beach will be a must and she may even be interested in a trip out to the Great Barrier Reef. May won't come around quick enough for me!

08 March 2008

Enjoying the Whitsundays

We now have up-to-date information on sailing the Whitsundays. One of the owners of Mission Beach Information Station has just returned from a fabulous trip on Whitsunday Magic, a beautiful boat if the photos are anything to go by. Even though the weather wasn't great he still had a really really good time, and as he was sailing around he spotted many of the other boats we can help you book. Come in and see us before you leave Mission Beach!

07 March 2008

Road flooding

Last Sunday my attempt to make it from Mission Beach to Cairns was cut short at El Arish. The rivers were rising, visibility was nil and it would have been impossible for me to make it home again. Luckily the rain has eased and the roads are now open, i might have better luck this sunday.

Having some perspective

One of the things we understand here at Mission Beach Information Station is just how important your holiday is, that there has been a lot of time, effort and money gone in to the planning and actual event. We also know that sometimes the best laid plans go awry....this is where its really important not to lose perspective, to go with the flow, to be flexible and be willing to change your plans at the drop of a hat, because you are on holidays and you want to have fun!

06 March 2008

Job well done

Well done to Kerrie from Mission Beach Information Station who managed to calmly get everyone on a special Greyhound bus that came from Cairns to Tully to take passengers back to Cairns. She made the drivers job easier and everyone was pleased to be getting on with their holiday. As wonderful as Mission Beach is when you've gotta, you've gotta go.

05 March 2008

Be careful on the roads

If your traveling between Cairns and Mission Beach then please be careful. The has been a lot of rain about over the last 4 days and the roads are flooded in places, and wet and slippery everywhere. Please keep yourself updated via RACQ and local visitor centres.

JJ Backpackers

CAIRNS: Small, safe, clean and friendly backpackers

Where is Dunk Island

Are you out there Dunk Island? Sometimes when it rains hard in Mission Beach we loose Dunk Island. Apparently it is still out there but you cant see it from the mainland! We do weather well up here, loads of rain and then beautiful blue skies......gotta love the tropical north.

03 March 2008

Wet inside and out

Wasn't yesterday an interesting day, Mission Beach was flooded in for a short period with both the Mission Beach to Tully Road and the Mission Beach to El Arish Road flooded. This caused a little bit of grief with the Greyhound and Premier buses not being able to get through.......A friend though had quite an experience, her flooding happened inside, their fish tank burst and they came home to water and fish all over their house, luckily it must have just happened because they were able to save most of the fish, not so lucky with all the cleanup though of course. Welcome to the wet season!

02 March 2008

Living in Far North Queensland

I went for a walk with a friend last night around South Mission Beach, it really was lovely looking at how people set up their houses to enjoy the best of living in Far North Queensland. The beach and Dunk Island views are particularly fabulous, and even though we did get a little bit wet as we meandered along it was still really pleasant, because rain in the tropics does not mean cold, which is a definite advantage over living down south.

01 March 2008

Heading south

If your heading south from Mission Beach and are planning a boat trip from the Whitsundays or a package including Fraser Island, then please come and see us. It seems that its quite busy down in Airlie Beach at the moment and I have had two sets of customers already this morning who have missed out on the boat they wanted because it is booked out. We at Mission Beach Information Station can hopefully help you to not miss out!
